Press Releases
University Medical Center’s Diabetes Education Program will host a support group meeting on Thursday, February 11th, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Conference Room at UMC’s McFarland campus at 500 Park Avenue in Lebanon. The focus of the meeting will be on learning more about eye problems caused by diabetes and sight saving treatments.
Glaucoma is 40% more likely to occur in a person with diabetes. Cataracts happen more frequently (60%) and sooner if you have diabetes. Yearly eye screening is very important for tracking these and other conditions associated with diabetes. Preventing and treating complications of eye disease in diabetic patients is a specialty of Dr. Randolph Evans, M.D. FACS. Huge strides have been made in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy. The earlier the problems are diagnosed, the more successful the treatment can be. Dr. Evans offers an informative and hopeful message. He is encouraging as he tells of his patients and what is available now for highly successful treatments.
UMC Diabetes Support Group is available free of charge to all interested in knowing more about diabetes. Light refreshments provided. For more information please call: Melinda McCreary RN, CDE 443-6219.
